Comments about Crucial 2GB, Ballistix 240-pin DIMM, DDR2 PC2-6400,:

This is good memory, but did NOT operate at rated speed of 800mhz when all 4 memory slots - 8gb -were filled. With 4gb (2 memory slots filled) it did operate at 800mhz fine. They had to be clocked back to 667mhz to get the computer to start with 8gb installed. Mushkin 5-5-5-15 memory does work with this motherboard at the full 800mhz with 8gb installed. However the speed tof the computer was the same in testing at 667mhz and 800mhz anyway. It apparrently is NOT the memory's fault, but a problem with the ASUS motherboard that causes this, but Crucial could have explained this limitation on its website which said this memory would work on this motherboard with no problems - thus the 4 stars out of 5.

I have 2-1gig and 2-2gig sticks in my Asus mobo. I have had to replace the 1 gig sticks twice and the 2 gig set once over the last 3 years.

Local pc shop will not carry Crucial Ballistix due to failure rate, though they say that the standard RAM is good.

The original Dual Kit had incompatible sticks inside the kit. I contacted Crucial for an RMA and after a speedy return the new modules play perfectly together and with a second Dual Kit. A great boost to performance with two of these on an ASUS M4A785-M m/b. I am very pleased with the service and quality of these sticks from Crucial.

...The memory, or the web-available RAM-selection configur-ater which Crucial has been so thoughtful as to implement.

While they may or may not be on ASUS's official Memory Q-list, the fact is I have yet to order anything from them which hasn't worked flawlessly for the mobo I purchased it for, both personally and professionally.

As for this memory itself, it was for a revivified ASUS M2N-SLI Deluxe, and was used to max out the memory the board could take; admittedly, while it still needed a new CPU to make it into a weak (if still viable) DEV machine, without this memory, it wouldn't have been worthwhile.

I haven't dealt with Crucial's CSR's, and considering the amount of memory I've purchased from them (in my name as well as under the aegis of a variety of other organizations), that is a *good* sign.

Highly recommended.

Sincerely,

Jason

Built 12 machines using this RAM, 4 sticks each for a total of 48 modules. The RAM worked well for about a year, then within a 3 month period of time every machine began to develop memory failures. I had so many of them fail that I pulled all of the RAM and did an RMA. Thankfully they have a lifetime warranty. I verified that individual modules were failing by using memtest86 v4.1, and I tested them in 3 different models of motherboards. About 40% of the modules had errors. I've never seen a failure rate this high. The return process was very easy and I've found no problems with the replacements (yet).

Bought it over a year ago, on the Black Friday of 2008. It recently got corrupted (according to Memtest), so I sent the one stick in for warranty (lifetime, very nice). [...] I was so used to 4 gigs of ram... going back to 2 was almost frightening. Also, I don't know if the two are related, but in the same time span of the RAM corruption, Windows 7 failed to boot on my SSD after about 4 months of running smoothly. Repair via discs and other methods failed, so I had to format it.

I used Crucial's on line tool to help me select memory for my old desktop, which is now running Win 7 64 bit, as I wanted to upgrade my 4 GB of RAM to 8 GB. Of the compatible memory sticks found I chose the 2 GB Ballistix RAM and installed 4 sticks in a few minutes of opening up my rig. It works flawlessly and the added memory will allow me to get the most out of my old system until I build a new one next year. I will be sure to come back to Crucial when I do.

I'm on my third set of these modules. The first two sets developed faults and lead to my machine being unstable. Failing memory is hard to diagnose as it just makes the machine unstable--which lots of things can do. Due to my experiences with these modules, every time I experience instability, I know to run a memory test to look for problems. memtest86+ is now on several USB Flash drives I own so I can boot it up as needed.

Where these modules work, they're very fast. They perform quite well and I'm very happy with their performance. The 2x2G sticks I swap in when I RMA these are a good deal slower and I can tell the difference in games and other activities.

Comments about Crucial 2GB, Ballistix 240-pin DIMM, DDR2 PC2-6400,:

Bought the 2-2G (4GB total) Ballistix kit to upgrade an ASUS M2N-E SLI motherboard. I was hoping/expecting 4-4-4-12 timing, as it was listed as compatible using the Crucial scanner.

Setting the BIOS to 4-4-4-12 settings resulted in 6-4-4-14 per CPU-Z. And the PC seemed slower.

Per Crucial tech support, I was better off using the ASUS DRAM "auto" setting which resulted in 5-5-5-18 timing. This was the org setting of my previous 2GB total memory.

So I gained 2GB of memory but did not succeed in maximizing the memory timing and could have saved a few bucks buying lesser Crucial memory.

I had random reboots and BSOD's on a new system and determined it was the ram even though Memtest found no problems. Replaced it with a cheap set of Crucial's economy line memory and it was stable. Put this ram into another machine and it worked flawlessly for months. Then, it started BSOD'ing and crashing. This time Memtest found many errors. From the time I clicked "send" for an RMA and the time I got my new sticks was INCREDIBLE! Thus, even after having to go through the RMA process I am still using Crucial and will continue to use them. As I said, decent memory, but GREAT customer service!

Bought 2 of these for dual channel config. One died in less than a year. Second one also failed to pass Memtest86. My server kept bluescreening and rebooting itself constantly until I figured out what the problem was. These mem sticks were the culprit. Sent them in for RMA but haven't received replacements yet and it's been about 2 weeks now.

I had two of these running in a CAD/CAM station. The applications used were demanding but no more so than heavy gaming for 8 hours a day. Both sticks failed within one year. I've never seen memory fail and it was odd to see both go at the same time. Tested independently they both had errors. We lost some data due to BSODs but this story has a happy ending. I sent the modules back to Crucial and they sent me two brand new modules with no questions asked. The lifetime warranty works out in the end.

My computer showed a drastic increase in performance when I installed the modules (4 X 2GB, Ballistix 240-pin DIMM, DDR2 PC2-6400). Even though Windows XP Professional 32-bit does not recognize the additional memrory above 3.5GB it does seem to reserve some of it giving me the full 3.5GB as noted in the task manager. The moduleds were simple to install, only taking approximately 5 minutes (most of that was to get the case cover off and pop out my old modules).

One of the pair of modules I had purchased about eight months ago threw ocassional errors on test #7 of Memtest86+. This happened even when I significantly relaxed memory timing from the built-in EPP numbers.

Both modules are now running interleaved at EPP timing (4-4-4-12), at nominal voltage (2.0V), on an MSI DKA790GX Platinum motherboard supporting an AMD 64 dual processor (code named Brisbane) at 3.1 GHz. No errors encountered, so I couldn't be happier.

This memory is excellent. Installed smoothly with not too much pressure, works well, good timings. Be aware that 2.0V is not standard memory voltage, (1.8V is), so you will have to adjust the voltage in your bios (seems some reviewers didn't realize that, it threw me the first time I bought 2.0V memory as well).

Since crucial.com was created, I've only bought non-crucial memory three times, and all three have failed. I've bought crucial memory four times, and never had a problem. I'm getting tired of replacing the other stuff (even under warranty), so I decided to buy new crucial memory instead.

Well i used Crucial memory from the start when it came with my bare bones kit. When I was ready to upgrade I did a lot of resaerch and found trust and comfort in the Crucial name. I enjoyed the information supplied bt their website and figure why not buy memory from the people producing it. Latency is low and I experienced a 50% decrease in memory usage currently running at 22%. My only regret is not getting the DDR2 PC2-8500 which would allow my athlon 6000 to run at 1000mhz instead of 800 mhz. Other than that they delived, installed and were effective imediatly.

Running Vista x64 Ultimate. Was getting mem errors and blue screens all over. Got tired of the blue screens and purchased ram certified for my mobo. Since it was so cheap I bout 8 gb of it. I threw the crucial ram in, booted up. And ya know, I've been a vista basher since day 1, but ever since i put this ram into my machine I have yet to get any blue screens, CTD's with wow and war. WOOT! my PC has never been this stable. If your using a mobo with a 680i chipset, this is the mem you wanna buy hands down.
