Parts were expensive over the counter. Crucial provided me with the parts I needed[...]and the parts improved the performance tremendously and the cost was very reasonable.

I bought four of these, not to add, but actually to replace the 1 GB of memory I already had installed on my very old Tyan Tiger 100 motherboard (1 GB being the maximum the board supports). The old RAM was all hand-me-down PC100 and lacking in any kind of packaging or documentation, so I didn't know certain things about it, such as whether it was CL2 or CL3. But I do know it had at least two strikes against it: it was buffered/registered and parity (ECC), both of which are completely superfluous in a non-server setting and slightly detrimental to performance. The BIOS allows me to turn off ECC, but I was still taking an incremental performance hit from the registering/buffering, and possibly from the RAM being CL3. And in an old, slow machine, I believe every little bit counts.
As the name suggests, the Tyan Tiger 100 is a 100-MHz board intended to take PC100 DIMMs. Of course, PC133 modules should work fine at 100 MHz, they're generally a bit cheaper than PC100 these days, and Crucial's memory finder recommended them for my board anyway, so that's what I went with (in unregistered/unbuffered, non-parity/non-ECC, CL2 trim). The BIOS will let me run the board at up to 133 MHz, though, and this memory gave me greater latitude to experiment with overclocking the system slightly in this way, since the old PC100 modules wouldn't even boot at 133 MHz. Unfortunately, I have experienced some hard crashes when the dual CPUs have been under especially heavy load, so for now I've scaled back to 100 MHz. All temperature indicators are well within safe ranges, so I don't know what the problem is, but at least it shouldn't be the RAM.
Even at 100 MHz, though, the system feels a bit more responsive with the new DIMMs. Was the benefit for such an old system worth the price, considering I wasn't even adding additional memory but rather just replacing the RAM I had? That's debatable, and I would like to see vendors and retailers charge a bit less considering the age of this RAM technology; but I'm not in a position to shell out for an entirely new system right now, so I think this was a good move. It's probably low demand that results in somewhat inflated prices for such products anyway.
Of course, being that PC133 is a dinosaur, we're not talking rocket science here, and this isn't one of Crucial's high-end, cutting-edge products. Still, though, I believe in buying name brand RAM, even for such an old board. The price (while a bit steep) was competitive, the shopping and ordering processes were painless, and I've mildly revitalized my old system, content with the knowledge that my RAM is no longer bottlenecking system throughput in any avoidable way. I'm happy with my purchase.

I have an old dinosaur of a computer. It was very slow and getting to be a real aggravation. I bought some new software that I couldn't run due to insufficient memory. I started looking into increasing my memory and was referred to Crucial by a retailer. Crucial analyzed my system and made recommendations for increasing the memory. I ordered what was suggested and actually installed it myself. I am absolutely amazed at the results. My computer works again!!!
Thanks Crucial!

I have increased memory with this item but the price seemed a bit high but this is OK as it works. Other memory cards I tried did not work as nobody had this item with CL-2 rating. Guess that is the way things go with old computer.

My desktop is WAY obsolete; but I like it anyways, and have upgraded it every possible way... this being the final possible "hot rod". It was impossible to find this part anywhere else, and [...], that was a bit of lagniappe ("bonus" if you are not Cajun!). Although it did not make my PC hella-faster; multi tasking seems to be better! Thanks so much! Andrew

I didn't notice a speed increase. There may have been one, but it must have been minimal. The chip search used by Crucial worked great. It really made ordering the memory chip easy. There were no conflicts and Windows XP easily recognized the chip.

My daughter had upgraded her RAM but ahd to go back to the retailer twice because they gave her the wrong memory. My computer was analyized on-line, correct RAM identified, order and sent. I was in business before I knew it. Could not have been simpler (or more accruate!)

Since I had my computer upgraded to Service Pack III, it would sometimes take 15 minutes or more to open my e-mail, or even write something to word! The graph that shows how you could expect your performance to improve is really not so accurate. I'm so glad I just went for the max memory. The few extra dollars was nothing compared to the frustration it eliminated. I'm finally back in business!

The product purchase was replacement for modules in an OEM SCADA node that is fairly RAM intensive. Requires reliable, fast performance.

I'd ordered other memory and it didn't work, perhaps a mis-match or not installing in pairs. Anyhow, the Crucial site was recommended and the analyzer automatically chose memory for me. It works and my older Compac Presario 5000 (running XP) now has 512MB rather than 192MB. It does not seem to run any faster or do anything any better. But at least I know I'm giving it my best shot and maybe I'll even be able to add SP2. The memory showed up in my mailbox sooner than predicted. I'd order from Crucial again if I needed something.

Since I am new to the product and this company but I will say it did as was advertised. The longevity of the product is yet to be know by me. Not a bad thing because most memory modules if they work when installed and they check out without any errors by the system they usually last for years.

Wow, I have been wanting to upgrade my memory for quite awhile now, but for the guy at the store to be able to sell me memory he needed my computer...a problem when the nearest store is an hour away. I saw an ad in a mag that said crucial could help in just minutes...and after loging on they promptly shipped my new memory. With their easy instalation instructions I was able to upgrade my memory and make my computer great again. Thanks crucial for the help.
