Crucial recommended this RAM to me but after testing it in my machine, no good :( so I have to send it back.... turns out its the wrong type altogether, should have been PC2-4200 NOT PC2-5300. They don't sell that anymore. Rubbish.

Crucial Response: The memory is backwards comptable in most systems.

I bought it to upgrade an emachines D620 from 1GB. The machine's dual boot. On Vista home performance is much improved. It was always pretty good on Linux, and now zips along.

I've avoided doing my own memory upgrades since I (successfully) upgraded an Amstrad PC1512 from 512K back in the 80s! (Anyone who's been there will know what I mean.) This was so easy to do.

I was initially concerned that only 1.7GB was showing up when running the 'free' command; tech support tell me that the balance is allocated to shared graphics.

I approached this installation with trepidation as it was my first. However, after carefully following Crucial's instructions, which took at the most 5 minutes, the improvement was very noticeable. There was no driver or compatibility issues having followed Crucial's recommendations after their scan download and analysis. But for me the biggest improvement was the lack of screen freeze which happened on a regular basis prior to the upgrade. Why didn't I do this sooner!!!

This memory comes with a good warranty, arrives well protected in it's packaging and you just know that it will work because of the obvious care it has received by Crucial. I raised the memory from 512MB to 2 GB and the return was more like 10 times the increase. All this on a 530 Celeron CPU for a little over [£] what more could you ask?

The above part was purchased after being advised by FAQ that it was backward compatible, however it did not work in my Gateway MX3220b. Having said that, the Service I received on the return and reorder of 1Gb 200 pin SODIMM DDR2 PC-4200 was impecable. I would certainly recommend Crucial for Memory as the above worked first time and a lot faster than 512Mb card that I had.

A friend approched me with a very slow laptop, after a quick search I ntd they er running XP with only 256mb of ram! The online scanner sadly did not help this time due to the fact that the laptop in question was an unknown perculier make. However after a quick email to the support guys they came back with the product needed. As always it arrived next day and after fitting, the laptop was like a new machine.
