Comments about Crucial 2GB kit (1GBx2) Upgrade for a Apple Power Mac G5 (Single 1.6GHz DDR) System:

I always take the crucial performance bar indicators with a pinch of salt.
So I was pleasantly surprised by the difference adding more memory made to the speed of my 1.6Ghz G5.
It was incredibly easy to install.
Even my low end powermac G5 takes 4GB of ram and unlike many windows PCs out there none of that Memory is wasted - it is all usable memory.
I routinely run many windows and multiple applications at the same time; I use my Power MAC for work and for fun.
Adding the memory means that the Mac hardly ever touches the hard disk; it does not have to page memory out when switching Applications now; they all just live in the memory.
I seldom shut my computer down so MacOSX keeps them in Memory unless the memory is needed for something else; so applications also seem to start faster.
I just wish that Apple had put eight slots in my Mac.
Another neat thing is the way that crucial can detect the memory you need. I know that G5s in particular can be very fussy about "Non-Apple" memory. The Macs look the same and the slots look the same; yet they take different types of memory -
However I have had no problems installing Leopard with this memory installed so it clearly meets the right spec.
