I bought added memory for my aging Dell 4600 Dimension hoping it would improve performance. After cleaning the computer of excess programs and files, I noted very minor to no speed impovements after adding more RAM. I'm a casual internet user/browser and use the MS Office products...that's about it. In my case while I find no fault with the products, they were very easy to install if you know just a little about the insides of a computer, I would have been better off to spend the near $100 towards a new computer. (bought two GB).

My home computer was extremely slow in bringing up email, Internet Explorer and any other application. Installation of the added DRAM took a total of less than 5 minutes. Not much more than the time that it took to remove the computer case and locate the DIMM slots.

The problem that I now have is when using the Internet Explorer, a pop up message indicating that this application needs to be closed is received more often than I have experienced in the past, but I don't believe this is the result of the added RAM.

The computer performance and speed has increased far beyond my expectations.

I would buy this product again.

I had come SO close to throwing my PC out my window so many times because it was extremely slow, then a tech guy I know said all I needed to do was increase the RAM and it would be like new. After waiting on him for 2 months I decided to try it myself. I found Crucials site and followed the steps to find out what I needed, I ordered the correct item [...]. Heres the good part, I have zero computer skills (as far as repairs & upgrades) but I had the PC apart, new RAM installed and up and running in LESS than 5 minutes!!!! The video installation tutorial was a big help. When they say it "snaps" into place, that's true - but it did require a very hard push down to get there, which I was wary about at first since it was such a tight fit I almost thought it wouldn't go. But it did. And there's a definite increase in speed - which saved me hundreds over my computer shop's recommendation that I buy a whole new computer!

When you install make sure you push down until it locks on its own, you have to push pretty hard. If you lock the hooks yourself it won't work. Once I got the new RAM in it was a night and day difference for me. It was awsome.

I recently upgraded my Dell Dimension Desktop running Windows XP from 1.5GB to 4GB through Crucial.com....I was pleasantly surprised how easy it was to use their software to discovery the type and maximum amount of memory I needed. It seems to work fine, my only issue was due to my operating system it only uses 3.25GB of the 4GB memory, and when discussing this with the staff online it was pretty clear that I didn't really need the 4th GB of memory. Would have been nice to know this before I purchased. Haven't really seen a definitive increase in speed or handling, though it seems to be working.

I was dubious about installing more memory, since I'm a software, not a hardware person, but I needn't have worried. The only hard part was getting the new modules completely inserted - it took a lot of wiggling and pushing. crucials scan of computer is fast and accurate. As an IT guy I have used crucial often.
I did have an unusual problem with the last install that took me all of 10 more minutes,as the 2 memory chips were not both picked up. I exchanged their locations, and all went well. It could have been that they were not fully seated initially. Only potential criticism is that the graph that illustrates how much 'faster' your computer will be must be taken with a grain of salt, and purchasing the largest amount of memory may not be necessary.

In the past I've been reluctant to buy more memory because of the hassle of figuring out which are the correct DIMMs to install. The Crucial applet makes it easy to select the correct ones, and even gives you a cost/benefit tradeoff. If more users were aware of the applet, then I'm sure that they could sell tons of memory.

All in all I am still satisfied. The website is amazing but the memory card I purchased could have been better. Currently I do not have any problems. I upgraded from 2 GB to 3 on a AMD dual core w/ Vista. I don't really know if I should notice a big difference because I don't. In the beginning I have received the blue screen three times. I haven't had it for a while. Still waiting but so far it is ok now. I had RAM checked by MS's official diagnostics tests and everything is fine. A baby could have installed this.
