I had previously bought a stick of RAM elsewhere and it didn't work, although my PC recognised it, Windows would not run.
I did the online scan with Crucial and bought 1GB (one of the recommendations). Easy to install; the Crucial RAM worked immediately with no issues; PC Start-up so much faster, and all applications running faster.

This old Dell was gradually dying from all the Microsoft Auto Updates. Windows Service Packs & Anti Virus stuff, but this RAM kept it on top of things and still fast enough to be a reliable office workhorse. Cheers

Extra 1GB has totally transformed the speed of my 7 year old 0.5GB PC. Before everything seemed to work so slowly - now web pages load quicker, I can run multiple applications without much change in performance. Slow applications such as MS Office and iTunes now run brilliantly. Totally recommend.

I downloaded a program from Crucial which told me how many slots I had and what was in them. It also told me how much to upgrade, how to do it and what it would cost. It's all done now, it was supplied in three days and quickly put, and it works a treat! Well done Crucial, and the two GB of RAM you sent me!

The hardest part of the upgrade process was taking the case off the PC...
But after that, it was simple. I even felt confident enough to move the original 0.5GB memory unit into the second slot so that the new larger unit could be in prime position - as recommended.
If you have a PC with limited memory, this upgrade is easy, and well worth doing.

I wish I had done this ages ago. The Crucial Scan tool highlighted the possible improvements and it was so simple to order and install. Windows recognised the new components immediately and I benefit every time I use the PC. As I multiplied my RAM by three there is a very noticeable increase in speed. Where the PC used to sit there churning away while it thought about opening a file, now they open quickly. Work with Photoshop has speeded up, in fact anything that is 'data dense' is more easily dealt with.

Rather than buy a new PC , a techie friend recommended buying more memory. I was rather worried about even opening up the box but once I'd managed that, replacing the RAM was easier then I thought it would be. And going from 512mb to 2gb has made a real difference in performance. I can now actually use several applications at once without having to wait for the PC to drip feed them!

Not sufficient instruction is given by retailers re the installation of memory boards. It's difficult to apply sufficient pressure on the boards (they are only about 1/16" thick) to ensure they are correctly seated.

To facilitate this, I found that a piece of wood to cover the board's lenght & width was necessary in order to apply the pressure needed. Dimensions around 6" x 2" x 3/4" wide should suffice (chipboard).

Ensure that the edge making contact with the memory board is reasonably straight & that the latter is aligned correctly in it's slot before applying pressure.

Used the scan my system utility thing.
It finds what RAM you have got - how many slots you have and how many are filled and by what size of module.
It tells you exactly which modules you can fit it tells you [all at the same time] how much various configurations would cost.
Just click on the RAM you want and you go straight to the checkout.
And I haven't even opened the PC-Case yet!
Very easy to get it right.
Having said that I haven't actually installed the RAM yet, so I cannot comment on ease of installation or anything

We have had our PC for a number of years now, as we do not really know that much about the internal workings we assumed it was just a slow PC and was getting slower as it got older. My PC is 6+ years old (Dell with XP), and performance has been visibly degrading over the years, with increased occurences of the "virtual memory too low" warning. I suspected this was mainly down to multiple tabs being opened simultaneously in Firefox, multiple applications running, and high Virtual Memory usage due to all the extra security/malware software (e.g. SuperAntiSpyware, etc). After some research, including Crucial downloads to check my PC (very easy to use!), I decided to buy an extra 1GB of RAM from Crucial. [...]easily installed, and the performance has improved dramatically for approx £30. I'm aware I will have to buy a new PC or laptop sooner or later, but I'm pleased that this upgrade has helped me avoid that expense at this time. Thanks Crucial.

My dell Dimension was going really slow particularly after I installed Norton 360 which said my memory was low at 512k

IT at work referred me to crucial and isearched for the memory which was easy to install and did the trick

I was very wary of messing with the innards of my 2400 but not even a screwdriver was needed to to do the job. The vacant RAM slot was easy to locate once 4 years of accumulated dust and fluff had been removed. The card went in easily but it was quite fiddly to close the clips to lock it into place. Nevertheless, job done in 10-15 minutes total.
Immmediate impprovement in performance , no longer have to wait ages for desktop to load on start up. Photoshop CS3 now operates rapidly instead of plodding along. Can now use software demanding >256KB RAM. Well pleased with purchase.
