Not sufficient instruction is given by retailers re the installation of memory boards. It's difficult to apply sufficient pressure on the boards (they are only about 1/16" thick) to ensure they are correctly seated.

To facilitate this, I found that a piece of wood to cover the board's lenght & width was necessary in order to apply the pressure needed. Dimensions around 6" x 2" x 3/4" wide should suffice (chipboard).

Ensure that the edge making contact with the memory board is reasonably straight & that the latter is aligned correctly in it's slot before applying pressure.

Used the scan my system utility thing.
It finds what RAM you have got - how many slots you have and how many are filled and by what size of module.
It tells you exactly which modules you can fit it tells you [all at the same time] how much various configurations would cost.
Just click on the RAM you want and you go straight to the checkout.
And I haven't even opened the PC-Case yet!
Very easy to get it right.
Having said that I haven't actually installed the RAM yet, so I cannot comment on ease of installation or anything

We have had our PC for a number of years now, as we do not really know that much about the internal workings we assumed it was just a slow PC and was getting slower as it got older. Having found the Crucial web site, I was impressed by the programme that tells you where your PC is at present and where it could be with a little TLC. The product arrived a couple of days after we ordered it, very easy to fit and the performance improved immediately. As the title says, I wish I had thought about it sooner. No complaints what so ever.

To begin with I bought 1GB RAM from a local computer specialist. When I fitted it the machine would not boot. My PC is 6+ years old (Dell with XP), and performance has been visibly degrading over the years, with increased occurences of the "virtual memory too low" warning. I suspected this was mainly down to multiple tabs being opened simultaneously in Firefox, multiple applications running, and high Virtual Memory usage due to all the extra security/malware software (e.g. SuperAntiSpyware, etc). After some research, including Crucial downloads to check my PC (very easy to use!), I decided to buy an extra 1GB of RAM from Crucial. [...]easily installed, and the performance has improved dramatically for approx £30. I'm aware I will have to buy a new PC or laptop sooner or later, but I'm pleased that this upgrade has helped me avoid that expense at this time. Thanks Crucial.

I was very wary of messing with the innards of my 2400 but not even a screwdriver was needed to to do the job. The vacant RAM slot was easy to locate once 4 years of accumulated dust and fluff had been removed. The card went in easily but it was quite fiddly to close the clips to lock it into place. Nevertheless, job done in 10-15 minutes total.
Immmediate impprovement in performance , no longer have to wait ages for desktop to load on start up. Photoshop CS3 now operates rapidly instead of plodding along. Can now use software demanding >256KB RAM. Well pleased with purchase.

As I already had increased my memory to 1.5gb, I was only adding a further 500mb (had to remove original 500mb as I only had one extra slot to add extra memory card). There was a little improvement in speed, however my computer is still quite slow.

I had 512mb RAM, and now I have treble RAM. I bought this extra memory when my computer would not let me install a slide scanner. Never looked seriously inside the tower before, and found that it was like a Meccano unit. I must have disturbed another connection while putting the additional memory in - panic - could not reboot at all. Tightened everything, and it now boots and runs fine. Scanner now installed without difficulty. Now I can have lots of functions running together without any problems.

My Dell Dimension 2400 had 512K of RAM, and was slowing down when background downloads/operations were in progress. I ordered 2 x 1GB RAM Modules from Crucial; the upgraded RAMs are working perfectly and the operation speed of my PC is very much improved.

so good, just reinstalled windows so i was a little gutted i didnt order this until late but that was my fault. came to order from crucial as i bought a stik from my local PC shop and that didnt work, i took it back and they said the brand may not be compatible so gave me another, that didnt work either!

the one bought from crucial is guaranteed to work and was so easy to install. massive gains in speed of handling mutiple programs and the way the computer feels is so much better when i am using music production programs.

basically this is so good i am a happy man!!

I installed this additional RAM using the invaluable instructions provided by Crucial. I'd never taken the cover off a computer before & was nervous about doing so but followed the instructions to the letter & wondered why I'd waited so long.

Was initially worried about buying this product as my Dimension 2400 already had a single 256MB DIMM installed and Dell's website stated that 1GB (as 2 x 512MB) was the maximum supported memory.

Crucial's website stated that this PC model would support twice this (2GB as 2 x 1GB) and they were correct...Dell were wrong!!

The PC now has a 1 x 1GB and 1 x 256MB registered in Windows and works a treat. Will be upgrading to 2 x 1GB very soon.

I upgraded one of the two 512 MB memory boards in my Dell computer some time ago, and the speed-up was exactly as Crucial's scan software predicted. I then decided to upgrade the second board, and again the speed-up was as predicted. Installation was straight forward, and everything worked instantly.

I would use Crucial again, no problems.

It was slightly tough to install, but that was due to an old computer with a small ammount of dust build up on the empty slot I was installing to. I use it primarily so I can run multiple programs at the same time, but it also helps with gaming online, reducing lag fairly effectively.
