Adding RAM upgrade has obviated the need to ditch the iMac in favour of a more powerful one to take advantage of recent software releases that need 1Gb of RAM. Upgrade was cheap to buy, easy to install and des the job.

I used these expanded memory upgrades to beef up the spec of an iMac on which I run ProTools recording software and peripheral software such as Antares Autotune. The resultant increase in memory has significantly improved the stability of the system and I'm getting fewer error messages.

I've bought memory DIMMs previously for myself but this was for a distant friend who was suffering from "the spinning beachball" too often. I got her to download the Crucial System Scanner Tool and determine precisely what was needed (2 x 1GB SODIMMs) then I ordered them. They arrived next day and I drove to her house to fit them. The only thing I had problems finding were the fitting instructions. However, fitting to her iMac was a simple matter of removing two screws that hold the panel below, flipping the levers, pulling out the DIMMs and pushing in the new (keeping one finger pressed against an iMac screw to equalise potentials while I was handling the DIMMs).
