I was waiting several minutes to open Word documents and my CAD package was dead. I thought I needed a new computer, but for a tenth of that cost I now have just what I need - one that works when it is turned on.
The original RAM was 512Mb, so I increased it by a factor of three. It had worked reasonably well, but Windows updates eventually ate all the reserve up about a year ago, so try this first!
