The hassle of buying RAM. What sort? what speed? how many pinns? what size? ec.t.With the application provided by Crucial it was super easy to see what RAM I should buy. The downloadable application takes care of that. It checks out your computer and states exactly what RAM you need.If you are un-cheeky, and not just use the information provided by the application to buy the cheepest RAM on the market, you'd find it dream easy to buy the RAM via the application too.[...]

The memory has increased the speed to some degree, but very subtle. I'm sure there may be lots going on in the background but I was expecting a major increase in speed, since I have upgraded from 1GB to 3GB's.

Comments about Crucial 2GB Upgrade for a Apple iMac 2.16GHz Intel Core Duo (20-inch) System:
I already had 2 x 1Gb installed on my late 2006 Intel Apple iMac and was using Parallels v5 virtualisation software with a Windows 7 Ultimate virtual machine. The reason for upgrade was that running the virtual machine did slow the system down quite bad when running Apple apps in parallel.
The upgrade to 3Gb certainly did cure that issue to a certain extent, however I can't help but think that when not running the virtualisation software, other functions seem marginally slower, i.e. video encoding, gaming.
Reason being is that I am going from a matched to a mis-matched pair of RAM SO-DIMMS which (after searching Google etc) is translating to about a 6% performance hit which to be fair, is counteracted by the extra capacity.
The recommended solution is to upgrade to 2 x 2Gb which will ensure Dual Channel performance. Yes, Macs only support 3Gb, however the controller will support 4Gb. Only downside is that even though you've installed 4Gb, the Mac won't see anything above 3Gb so it will be a waste unless you need maximum memory performance.

For a fraction of the cost of buying the same spec chip from Apple, I have maxed out my iMac. Apple machines always made good use of limited memory but now I have seamless operation of multiple apps and an overall increase in performance.
I wouldn't hesitate in buying memory from Crucial in the future.

Comments about Crucial 2GB Upgrade for a Apple iMac 2.16GHz Intel Core Duo (20-inch) System:
This worked really well. The iMac had 2x512MB memory boards. I took one out and put the 2gb board in. Restarted the iMac. Didn't work. Opened the iMac again (2 screws) and pushed the boards in *firmly*. The memory boards should be inside the casing, not on edge with it. Restarted again. The iMac started as normal. No messages or anything. Clicking the Apple menu and "About this Mac" showed 2.5gb of ram. The best bit is that my laptop had a slot free and it's the same size so I put the iMac's old memory board into that so I got a free laptop upgrade from 1gb to 1.5gb. Can't complain, really. I don't notice the speed often, but I can run OSX and two instances of Linux in VM Fusion and the Mac doesn't even bog down.

Comments about Crucial 2GB Upgrade for a Apple iMac 2.16GHz Intel Core Duo (20-inch) System:
I was impressed with the Crucial specific instructions that came with the chipset. Installation in the Imac was straightforward but don't believe the 'firm pressure and click into place' instructions. You have to exert some serious finger force and you'll feel it slot another couple of mm's into the socket - there was no audible click. If the locking levers won't close easily you haven't pushed it far enough.
I edit some pretty big video files that did take maybe 2-3 hours to convert from one format to another. The same process now takes around 20minutes! For normal computing though, I can't honestly tell the difference as Apples handle memory very well - unlike that other well known OS!
I went for the 3GB max option (a 2GB and 1GB chip) but if you're on a budget you could simply replace one of your existing chips with this 2GB one and have a 2.5GB computer.
