I frequently use programs such as photoshop and iphoto and the addition of the 2x1gb cards has meant an impressive improvement in image handling and in the actual opening and closing of software with as many as 14000 images in memory. Searching, loading and image modification is facilitated by the increased power of the cards.

I use CS3 – Photoshop, InDesign, Illustrator, Acrobat – to do freelance design work. I also stream video and have two browsers running with multiple tabs open at all times, as well as Skype and sometimes Word and iTunes. My iMac is 4 years old and was battling with all this activity. I was only able to upgrade my machine by 512mb but it has made a difference and will definitely tide me over until I upgrade my hardware.

Although my system was unbalanced with 1.5 GB Ram the upgrade to a balanced 2x1GB has so far made very little, if any detectable speed increase. Never-the-less it is certainly no worse. It is early days. I'm sure the next time I render a big file in FINAL CUT I will find the upgrade was well worthwhile. My system now seems to be more stable in mutimedia applications.
