After installing the memory and switching the PC on, all we got was beeping sound from the PC. Tried different permutation of the memory but same result. Contacted Crucial technical support who suggested I try single memory module at a time. This identified one of the memory modules in the kit to be faulty.

There were just ten minutes between taking the memory out of the packaging, installing it and then checking it had been recognised by Vista. The on-line tool made confident I had selected the right modules and led to me placing the order. The only doubt was whether or not these CL6 modules would be compatible with the CL4s I'd already installed. (They were).

The difference it made in upgrading from 1 to 2GB of memory was the best PC move I have made in a long while.Should have done it yonks ago.
Would not hesitate to recommend.Start up and performance have increased in speed quite noticeably and the cost was so small.Just be careful when using the locking clips.

I was running out of memory on my motherboard due to more intensive apps (64bit Vista and image editing mainly). I had 4 modules of 512Mb in the motherboard so replaced two of these with 2 x 2Gb. Very straightforward install... Anyone could do it. Switched on machine and combined ram of 5Gb ... sorted! I've used Crucial a few times in the past and I particularly like the utility that matches your motherboards spec to the memory spec offered by Crucial. Gives me lots of confidence that I'm getting the right memory matched to my motherboard.

The scanner utility is very useful (and clever!), but it could be enhanced to check the OS installed and whether it can see the recommended amount of RAM. I installed 4GB, but XPSP2 can only see 3.25GB on my system.

Only after installation did I discover that Win x64 would be needed to see the full 4GB.

The manual for my Motherboard stated that only 2GB of memory could be fitted. I ran Crucials' test and it told me I could fit 4GB. I ordered the extra memory and it arrived [...] well packaged. Fitted in a couple of minutes, worked a treat. There is definately an improved performance, although I haven't tested it properly yet. Without crucials' test I would still be running at half available RAM, nice job, thanks.

Initial installation of new Crucial 2 X 2Gb together with existing 2 X 1Gb memory modules did not result in the overall 6Gb memory expected.

Crucial Technical assistance resolved the problem by describing exactly how the modules should be installed and recommending that the latest computer manufacturers BIOS drivers should also be downloaded and installed.

Many thanks - well satisfied with the product and after sales assistance and customer care.

If you are new to PC memory upgrading, you may find adding more memory a somewhat daunting task, if however you have experience in doing this it’s a fairly easy process, some basic PC upgrade knowledge required, or someone that has some experience in fitting new/additional memory.
This is good quality stable memory, but not the fastest available.
If you are using a 32bit operating system (most current operating systems) adding more than 3GB will be a waste of money as there is a maximum memory limit of approximately 3GB, most Windows 32bit operating systems will only see approximately 3.25GB of RAM
If you are using a 64bit operating system, such as XP or Vista 64 bit add as much as you can afford as long as you motherboard can support it, most modern motherboards will support 8GB or more, check the motherboard specifications.

I fitted this ram at the same time as a new processor. I went from an amd x2 4200 with 2GB of 533 ram to an amd x2 6000 with 4GB of 800 ram. Both improved multitasking abilities of vista. Since I'm using the 32 bit vista only first 3gb of ram were available, but the increase in ram clock speed, and 33% increase in available ram certainly helped. A quick and easy upgrade with good results.
