The memory was for an old PC running Windows XP that only had 256mb of RAM. The computer could no longer cope with the operating system (with all the updates) and the virus protection software. Every task took forever as the computer struggled along using the hard disk as virtual memory. Now, having fitted the new memory, it's like a brand new PC - why I didn't add the memory sooner I'll never know!

Fantastic difference in speed - previouly 256mb only. frequent reboots after any more than 10 minutes watching video, or freezing. Now much more stable plus faster startup and shutdown.

Will consider a further 1gig additional memory to make perfect.

No downside to this product

The whole Crucial process is amazing - swiftly identifying which product you need,order and payment system simple and smooth, [...] and was so easy to install - literally plug and play (easy to follow instructions are provided). This system (3year old HP Presario) was dreadfully slow (only 256mb Ram) on inserting this 1Gb it was a totally new machine!!
