I'm using a G5 iMac (non-Intel processor). I do a lot of photos and music and leave a lot of apps open. I also leave a lot of web pages open. I was getting the coloured spinning wheel all the time, when I was changing apps and even inside apps. Was seriously considering getting a new iMac (the 27" is a gorgeous machine), but thought, well, let's add more RAM and see what happens. I did, and the spinning wheel problem went away.

It's probably given my old G5 iMac another six to twelve months of useful life. I didn't think that going from 1.5gb to 2gb of ram would make much of a difference but it does.
