No longer do I have to worry about getting the dreaded blue screen due to lack of physical memory - I was told about crucial by word of mouth. I used their online analysis tool and I was allocated the correct 2GB memory for under £20.00! I was amazed!

I don't normally do reviews so that fact that I have taken the time to do this is an indication of how happy I was with the purchase of these memory modules.

My view is that there are 2 main ways to increase the speed of your PC, increase processor speed or increase memory. Increasing memory is one of the easiest upgrades to perform and it is made easier with the Crucial memory picker application - I knew I had ordered the correct memory.

These chips were for a Dell Dimension 5150 and they just slotted in increasing the previous memory from 1 mbyte to 4 mbyte.

The Pc is used for programming and database design and the extra speed means extra productivity! The 1Mbyte it replaced doubled another machines memory making it more usable also.

We took the advice of the crucial scan, which advised that to optimise performance, we should purchase 4 gb ram. as it transpires, windows xp 32-bit(what most of us use) can only utilise 3.2gb ram, which on top of the 1gb of ram we already had, renders virtually 2 gb of the ram we purchased ineffective. if you run windows xp 32 bit (the common one) you gain nothing by exceeding the 3.2gb of ram it can utilise. Beware.

Bought two of these modules for my desktop, as soon as the machine booted up it started a self defrag and now have 0% fragmentation. In 20 years using MAC's and PC's this is the first time ever I have seen such a result as this. If this is what it can do to a fairly heavily used machine that continually creates and erases files in a workplace then I would buy it for every machine I have.

All I knew about RAM is that I needed more. Where should I start? I downloaded and ran the Crucial System Scanner Tool which gave me several options and I plumped for the one that suited my needs best.
The enclosed instructions were easy to follow and gave me the confidence to do the job myself (bear in mind that I've never seen the inside of a PC before, never mind upgrade any of the components).
Took me five minutes and once done, checked the System and there it was.
