Upgraded my Acer One notebook from 1GB to 1.5GB RAM without any technical hitches. Worked fine first time.
Installation however difficult. If you are not of a practical mind and prepared to have a go, then don't try this yourself. Plenty of installation advice on YouTube - if you can follow step
by step instructons .

So, I decided to get some extra memory for my new netbook. Came straight to Crucial as I've used them before for my desktop PC and thought it would be best to use the PC-scanner-thing to tell me exactly what to buy.

The memory itself is...well, it's memory, and it works, so that's fantastic =)

A word of warning re: the installation! Oh my goodness... Firstly, search online for advice on how to install it. You may need to completely disassemble the netbook (depending on the brand) in order to do this. Sit down. Have a screwdriver handy. And some credit cards for prising the keyboard off.

I must emphasise though, that of course this is not Crucial's fault in any way, and I cannot fault them!

Excellent price to improve the total memory to 1.5Gb over the onboard's 512Mb. Would be no more difficult to fit than any other memory stick if it wasn't for the Acer One application - you have to dismantle the netbook to get it in. Easy enough just a bit of a faff. Recommended upgrade though for the money. Cheers, Luke. PS - don't bother trying a 2Gb stick until someone works out how to disable the onboard memory first!

Got this to boost my 1gb Acer Aspire One 150 to 1.5gb, which seems to have made quite a difference to the speed at which XP responds. Installation is a major operation as RAM needs to be inserted in literally the deepest part of the tiny case - there are plenty of video guides to do this on YouTube so as long as you are careful you should be ok.
It's a bit of a hassle to fit but I think it was worth doing

The upgrade to the Aspire One is rather daunting. You have to pull it apart to get to the RAM slot. However it all worked perfectly and I am pleased with the result. I will probably be able to run Windows 7 when available.

It's an absolute pain to install on the Aspire One 150, but certainly worth it (expanded from 512meg to 1.5gig).

Just be very delicate with everything, don't be afraid to pull to hard on the keyboard for it to come out, but be very careful of the ribbon cables that connect the keyboard and touchpad... They have a catch that pulls up for easy release. There's me trying to yank it out, having to buy a new touchpad ribbon cable :(

This is one of the most compatible modules, others are not the same and may have stability problems.

Word of warning installing this module is not for the faint hearted, it requires complete disassembly and removal of the motherboard and may invalidate your warranty

Installing the RAM itself is fine once you can get to the SODIMM slot, but unfortunately, on the Acer Aspire One, that's not exactly trivial!

Having said that, there are a number of internet guides to help and it can be done with no problems with suitable tools (e.g. correctly sized screwdrivers). Just take your time and track where each screw came from! (I'd recommend printing a copy of the screw location images from a guide & 'blu-tac'ing the screws onto the images in the positions you've taken them from as you do so.

As long as you don't break anything, this does NOT invalidate your warranty and should make a significant difference when running Windows OS's. It'll help with Linux, e.g. reducing swapping, but to a lesser extent unless you're doing something significantly more demanding than normal.

Increasing the RAM in the Acer Aspire One is a bit of a nightmare (I still have three screws left over from the operation and I don't know where they came from, but as everything works I'm sure not gonna open up the system again!); but it's still definitely worth doing as the system performance after the upgrade is great.

On the aspire One this product works seamlessly once installed, however don't try upgrading with this or any other memory module without researching the work involved first, (you have to completely disassemble the Aspire One base to access the slot) Say bye bye to your warranty and be prepared for at least an hour's work and worry. Then enjoy the warm glow that comes from a job well done with quality components :-)
