†1 GB = 1 billion bytes. Actual usable capacity may vary.

Micron® Quality - As a brand of Micron, one of the largest NAND manufacturers in the world, Crucial SSDs are designed and developed in-house with the latest technology. This means four things: hundreds of SSD qualification tests, over a thousand hours of prerelease validation testing, 1.5 billion dollars invested in R&D, and more than 30 years of industry expertise.

Adaptive Thermal Protection - Greater thermal management enables the Crucial M500 to work with the host computer to dynamically adjust power consumption based on usage demands, which helps address the cooling challenges of ultra-small, thermally constrained systems.

Hardware Data Encryption - The Crucial M500 SSD offers top-level hardware-based encryption, enabling enhanced data security. Our AES 256-bit hardware encryption engine and TCG Opal 2.0 compliant firmware allow the drive to operate at full speed without the performance loss that's typically found in drives that use software-based encryption technology.

Three Year Limited Warranty - From prerelease validation testing to ensure that our SSDs work with the broadest range of chipsets, motherboards, and operating systems to more than a thousand hours of endurance testing, our drives are tested for reliability from start to finish. We proudly offer a three-year limited warranty and award-winning tech support.

The SSD was easy to fit as long as you remember to add the correct PC/Laptop kit. It has transformed a 3 year old tower computer, it takes just 45 seconds to boot to the Windows 7 desktop and that includes the time it takes me to enter my password. It was a really worthwhile buy. I really can't find any downside to this SSD.

Easy to install, my boot tip dropped to just a few seconds and applications load like lightening. I used this to upgrade my MacBook Pro - my MacBook Air came with an SSD and - despite being a lower spec - was slower than the Pro for disc-based activity. This upgrade makes the Pro as much a joy to use as the air. For those asking about the Trim command, I e-mail Crucial support (on A Sunday) and got a reply within a couple of hours:

"All of our SSDs they have a feature called Garbage Collection. Garbage Collection is a type of memory management which frees up sectors that are no longer in use so they can be easily accessed again. With SSDs, this is part of the controller and runs during idle time so it does not affect performance but does allow quicker access to the newly freed up sectors. Windows 7 and Windows 8 have a built in Garbage Collection feature called Trim that runs at an OS level. That means you won't need to active the TRIM feature."

It does what it says in the publicity material. It has transformed my MacBook Pro [mid 2010].
May we have some advice about TRIM - how necessary is it?

Transformed my laptop (Toshiba Satellite - 2yrs old) performance meaning I shouldnt need to replace it for a while yet!
Direct replacement of the existing drive and it helped lose a little weight too (the laptop, not me)
          Highly recommended upgrade
