"The Crucial Ballistix Tracer DDR2-800 4-4-4-12 4GB Dual Channel kit is definitely what I'd call "wicked". Its bright red heat spreaders make it among the best-looking memory I've seen. The LED display is something pretty unique…Not only does the memory have no problem running 1:2 with a 1066mHz FSB processor, I don't know of another memory kit capable of a 50% overclock without special cooling, and without surpassing the manufacturer's recommended maximum VDIMM."

"Well there you have it folks, Crucial once again knocks socks off and does it in style. The Ballistix line of memory has always been known to impress and rightfully they should. But what this kit of memory has done on the 790i test motherboard is just above and beyond what our expectations were ... and our expectations were certainly a little bit lofty coming in. Needless to say, we weren't expecting to be able to benchmark at 1100MHz+ and certainly not at the little amount of voltage that was required to do so. Simply put, this memory out ran the motherboard and it wasn't even a close race."

"We know that most of you all out there that are willing to go in search of this kit will not leave any setting at default would love to know this kit has more to offer. Achieving another 50MHz may not seem like a lot but you must realize that this is not a 1600 or 1800MHz this is rated at an industry high of 2000MHz which is something that was unheard of in the early days of DDR3. We were totally satisfied with this overclock amount. And chances are we will get more out of it as we do a little more testing with other motherboards in the future."

"After witnessing the excellent overclocking potential from this memory, it is hard to wrap your brain around the fact that this memory costs less than US$100 for a 2 Gig kit. It's cheap, it's stable, it's incredibly overclockable and for garnish has its interesting LED illumination to light up your gaming case. There are few products that come out that come across my testbed and prove to be a complete "no-brainer" when it comes to deciding if it is worth the money. In my mind, this kit is worth more than its pricetag and should be on your list of kits you should consider if you are upgrading. "These Ballistix Tracer have a few good things going for them. It is a certain thing that some form of Micron chips will be used, most likely D9GMH or D9GKX. On top of that, Crucial has binned them very very tightly, offering overclocking headroom that is simply astounding. As was seen in the overclocking section, the speeds that this kit was able to do is simply the fastest of any kit tested so far. It makes me really wish for a good 965x or 680i board to see what is really possible at 5-5-4 timings... Thanks to the low price and outstanding performance, I am awarding Crucial's Ballistix Tracer PC8500 kit EclipseOC's Editor's Chioce award."

As a matter of fact, the Ballistix Tracer PC8000, our first memory review of 2007, turned in the best memory performance we've achieved on a 975X Intel platform to date, and as such is the best performing memory that we currently have in our lab!
